Kite: a light frame covered with some thin material, to be flown in the wind at the end of a string(s).

I thought it would be easy to get my two sons kites for Christmas, it seemed like such a simple idea and I knew they would love them. They were at an age (11 and 13) where something more challenging would be good, but I don’t really know a lot about buying kites and didn’t want to spend a fortune.

I found a couple of local stores that stocked kites, and while they had quite a selection of shapes and sizes I was totally confused by the sales advice. It seemed that there were  all sorts of single line kites, but no selection of dual line kites, my sons has been flying single line kites for some time and wanted to try different type of kites and stunt kites would be that challenge.I left the shops feeling lost and frustrated.

As a boy I didn't have different types of kites to choose from just the ones I had made and they had been great. I didn’t have the time to go to other shops and I am not sure if they would be any better. I can’t help feeling that the shop assistants enjoyed kite flying but possibly can’t remember what its like to not understand all the technical talk. What I wanted was to speak to someone or get advice from someone who had children, could recommend some kites and knew exactly what they would be capable of flying.
